The Top 4 for season 17 of American Idol is officially set, and color me floored. It’s technically the Top 5, as those voting at home made sure Alejandro Aranda, MadisonVanDenburg, Laine Hardy, and Wade Cota were safe.
The judges had the opportunity to use their lone save for the final time, and they acted on it, shocking everyone by pushing Laci Kaye Booth to the next round.
First off, Wade Cota getting into the Top 4 ahead of the insanely talented Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is just inexcusable. Cota has a touching story and a very unique, gritty tone. But he’s not abetter pure singer than Harmon, and he’s certainly not a superior musician.
Harmon channeled Elton John virtually every single time he performed, yet somehow, he didn’t make the cut. I understand arguments for Laine Hardy and Alejandro Aranda over him and perhaps MadisonVanDenburg.
But for a Top 4 this year not including Harmon, it’s a borderline joke.
That was bad enough. Then Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan had one last chance to get it right where America got it horribly wrong.
The process of deliberating to make that call took mere seconds, and it didn’t at all look like the judges knew what they were doing. Did they really go into the night not knowing if they’d usetheir save option and who they’d prefer to see advance?

And if so, how in the world was it Booth, who herself looked absolutely floored that anyone picked her over the far more talented Harmon?
I don’t know, and I’m not annoyed by it just because Harmon was an elite betting value last week or because he was my pick to win. Well, I am annoyed for those reasons, but also becauseit’s just a flat-out shame.
Regardless, the show must go on, and there remain five contestants trying to win this year’s American Idol. Let’s dive into a new week of American Idol odds and speculate as towho could win this thing.
